-My favorite economist set me straight on this years ago. Proper product of business is profit, plain and simple. Not social programs. Not social engineering. Unless that is what the investors want to do with profit. It is their choice it is the reward of investing their money, profit comes first. It should focus on increasing profit, which it could use to do more things.....
-
-And what is the proper product of government? Power. Unfortunately this is why government makes unreasonable goals for its programs (“We must erase all poverty/hunger/whatever”). Having unreasonable goals is how to create run away growth of programs, which cost orders of magnitude more to keep getting rid of smaller and smaller more difficult slivers of the problem.  So government grow and grows, to get more power.
